ANALYSIS & CONCLUSION
ANALYSIS & CONCLUSION
It was difficult to narrow our analysis down to three case studies, but in just three it is very easy to derive conclusions about women's sports in the media. The largest misrepresentation of female athletes is the focus on their sex appeal over their athletic abilities. We see this not only in article titles and quotes, but also in photographs. The second most notable characteristic of women's sports in the media is that the topic is rarely discussed. The absence of female athlete's representation in media is evident in statistics of articles already published, as well as in ESPN's attempt to separate articles about "sports" and articles about "women's sports." While representation of these athletes continues to progress over time, it is a slow progression.
